Grew up in West Texas with these in my backyard – I always look when I’m in their neck of the woods/desert, and sometimes I get lucky. But absolutely, put ’em down right where you find ’em … they don’t adapt well to relocation, even a short distance.
Yes, that’s true of a lot of animals.
