This robin-size blackbird is easily spotted because of a red shoulder patch on each wing. The red-winged blackbird can be found in the desert southwest near fresh and saltwater marshes, along watercourses, water hazards on golf courses, and wet roadsides.

Red-winged Blackbird in the Sweetwater Wetlands, Tucson, Arizona. — Images by kenne
Agelacious phoeniceus! I used to take my inner-city high school Bio students to a certain marsh in southwestern Pennsylvania. They, tough as they were, admired this bird much, strong, fearless, strutting its stuff on a high dry stick in the middle of the marsh, and sporting fancy, fancy duds and colors, Ken. Thanks for sharing and evoking good memories.
