Brown pelicans are the only pelican species that strictly inhabits marine habitats;
they are never found more than 20 miles out to sea or inland on fresh water.
They prefer shallow inshore waters such as estuaries and bays.

Pelicans are fascinating to watch. I would like to go back to Lake Tawakoni area in Texas and watch them in action again. I was so amazed as they stood at the bottom of the spillway with their beaks open catching the fish that came over in the falls. I believe they were white pelicans.
