“The Triad” — Hedgehog Cactus Blooms, Image by kenne

On a recent hike on the Dutch John Trail in Madera Canyon (Santa Rita Mountains) we spotted few flowers. This beautiful triad of hedgehog cactus blossoms was an exception. Nessaled in the fallen leaves of the surrounding trees at the 4,500 foot level, I was able to capture an image different from the dirt and rock desert floor.

  1. crisp clear beautiful

  2. New Mexico is too dry, Kenne. Ethel’s yard has flowers, but our walks are mainly in the presence of dried grasses and too dry vegetation. We haven’t even seen cactus bloom yet. I hope we have monsoons this year. I’m still hoping the cacti will flower. Your photo makes he hope even more intensely.

    • It is now very dry here, but in February & March the flowers were beautiful. As for the cactus, it has been a bountiful spring. I’m thinking the monsoon will be very good to us.
