Another Ken & Mary Blues Project Hit

For several years Ken and Mary Harris have arranged for excellent Texas blues musicians to participate in the “house party” in Porter, Texas. I have known Ken and Mary since the Blues Series was started at Montgomery College (now Lone Star College – Montgomery). Since Mean Gene Kelton was also active in the early days of the series, it is surprising that it was Gene’s first appearance at the Project. Even more surprising since in addition to the hard driving blues/southern rock of Mean Gene Kelton & The Die Hards, there is the down-home, front porch Gene. Ken and Mary’s east Montgomery County home, nuzzled in the piney woods is a perfect place for this southern roots singer-songwriter and storyteller to connect with people who share a universal love for what is real. In such an environment, Gene generates a dialog with the wisdom of our hearts.

  1. Great photo set! Thanks for such a wonderful write up of our little house concert. It was a very special night for many reasons. We love sharing our love of live music with family and friends. Enjoyed Gene’s show and the jam afterwards. Mike and Gene’s set was really special. It gave these two a chance to spend a little time together on stage after not seeing each other for a few years. You really captured the spirit of the evening as always. Thanks again. See you soon.

  5. Reblogged this on Becoming is Superior to Being and commented:

Gene was killed in an auto accident December 28, 2010. I first met Gene in 1999. I loved his music, his stories and his attitude on life. On the surface, one might think we lived in two different worlds, yet we found it easy to connect. Here’s a link to the first video I ever edited in 2008. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_r6fJhiRAE&t=85s
